Wholewheat and Oats Molasses Bread

Delicious wholewheat and oats molasses bread.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Oats
  • 2 cups Boiled Water
  • cup Blackstrap Molasses ½ if using traditional molasses
  • 2 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • tbsp Oil Canola
  • tsp Yeast
  • tsp Salt
  • 5 cups Flour Half wholewheat + half plain and more for kneading

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl combine oats, water,molasses, sugar and oil. Let cool and stir occasionally
  2. Once cooled, add yeast and mix
  3. Add flour until a dough is formed
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes
  5. Shape dough into a ball and place in an oiled bowl. Cover and let rise for 1½ hours
  6. Punch down dough and divide into two equal pieces and place into oiled loaf tins. Cover and let rise for another hour
  7. Preheat oven to 350f/180c for 15 minutes
  8. Remove cover and place in oven on middle shelf for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown
  9. Remove and cool on wire rack.
  10. When cool slice and enjoy!

Notes

Tip: You can add as much molasses as you want. I prefer a darker bread so I add closer to a 1/2 cup of molasses. Note the more molasses you add the more bitter the bread will be.
Tip: Some recipes use honey instead of sugar. You may also substitute in maple syrup.
Tip: I sometimes throw in some seeds to make this a seeded bread.
