Method
- In a large bowl combine oats, water,molasses, sugar and oil. Let cool and stir occasionally
- Once cooled, add yeast and mix
- Add flour until a dough is formed
- Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes
- Shape dough into a ball and place in an oiled bowl. Cover and let rise for 1½ hours
- Punch down dough and divide into two equal pieces and place into oiled loaf tins. Cover and let rise for another hour
- Preheat oven to 350f/180c for 15 minutes
- Remove cover and place in oven on middle shelf for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown
- Remove and cool on wire rack.
- When cool slice and enjoy!
Notes
Tip: You can add as much molasses as you want. I prefer a darker bread so I add closer to a 1/2 cup of molasses. Note the more molasses you add the more bitter the bread will be.
Tip: Some recipes use honey instead of sugar. You may also substitute in maple syrup.
Tip: I sometimes throw in some seeds to make this a seeded bread.
